  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) - Introductory

    Cost: $300 (textbook and shirt included)

    Course Requirements:

    • Must be 18 at the time of your licensure

    • Highschool graduate or have obtained GED certificate at time of testing

    • Drivers license and acceptable driving record

    • You will need to obtain a copy or your Driver’s Abstract (MVR). Current fee is $12.00 

      • (Preferred Method) Visit your local DMV in person. When you appear in person, you will be asked for your ID and will have to fill out form DSD DC 164.

      • Apply for a Driver’s Abstract copy by mail You will be able to leave with a copy of the form that day. Please note mail can take up to 10 business days.

    • Provide documentation of a current negative TB test

    Course Length:

    • Several courses are offered throughout the year

    • Each course is 3 weeks long and meets 3 days a week

      • This 78-hour course is broken down as follows;

        • 54 hours of classroom time

        • 24 hours of ambulance ride time

    • Supplemental virtual study sessions

    Course Description: As an EMR, you will be a valuable component of the EMT/EMR team. You will learn lifesaving techniques and interventions such as CPR and First Aid. Your main duty will be to drive the ambulance and support the EMT in patient care. This is a great introductory position to start you on a career path in EMS. This is an invaluable first step to help familiarize you with the challenges of EMT and Paramedic certification if you have no prior medical knowledge.

    This course and certification (Graduation of the course) prepares you to challenge the National Registry Emergency Medical Responder exam. Upon successful completion of the NREMT exam, you will obtain licensure in the State of Illinois and be able to function as the second person on a basic life support ambulance (BLS) alongside an Emergency Medical Technician. EMR is the lowest level of certification to enter the emergency medical field.

    Student will need to purchase the following:

    • Duty pants – navy

    • Duty shoes – black

    • Spiral bound notebook

    • 3 x 5 index cards

    • Stethoscope (optional)

  • Tinley September EMR Class

    Date: September 19th, 2023 - October 5th, 2023

    Days: Classes are Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday

    Time: 9am-3pm

    Location: 8400 w.183rd pl. Tinley Park, Illinois (ATG building)

FAQs

  • Yes! Get paid to take our course as well as guaranteed immediate employment as an EMR upon licensure and successful completion of screening and background check. Ask the Director of Education for details.

  • Well, yes and no. A team of 1 EMR with 1 EMT is typically used for non-emergency medical transports at this time. However, ALL patients pose the potential to become a medical emergency and you will be trained to address those situations with your EMT partner.

  • EMR is a great introduction to EMS. You will meet a lot of people in the field, never have the same day twice, and get a stronger appreciation for what choosing a career in EMS entails. You will also be building the knowledge to become a strong EMT and have better success completing the EMT course.
